Places to visit in Vancouver – Vancouver Lookout

The Vacouver Look out is one of the many popular Places to visit in Vancouver. Dominating the downtown Vancouver skyline near Gastown, the Vancouver Lookout has been drawing visitors to it’s 168.6m high viewing deck since it opened on August 13th, 1977.  Designed by Canadian architectural firm WZMH Architects, it’s spaceship-like pod structure might look familiar to first-time visitors (WZMH also designed Toronto’s famous CN Tower).  Fitting it’s lunar-module appearance, the Vancouver Lookout was opened by U.S. Astronaut Neil Armstrong.

The Vancouver Lookout sits atop the Harbour Centre complex, which features 28 stories of commercial and retail space, as well as the downtown campus for Simon Fraser University, and a newly renovated food court.  Guests will gasp as they race up to the Vancouver Lookout on an indoor/outdoor glass elevator that whisks you to the observation deck level in just 40 seconds!  If you are not scared of heights, be prepared for breathtaking views of the Vancouver downtown, Stanley Park, the North Shore Mountains, and the Burrard Inlet.  Like the CN Tower, Vancouver Lookout houses a revolving restaurant called “Top of Vancouver” where the views, and prices, are sky-high!
