Things to do in Vancouver – Lynn Canyon Park

If you thought that the Capilano Suspension Bridge was a bit too busy, and you would prefer a nice hike, picnic, and a dip in pristine mountain waters, then consider the accessible and free Lynn Canyon Park.  Yes, I did say free, as in there is absolutely no admission fee for entering the park, making it one of the all-time great Vancouver Scene deals!  Accessible by bus (lines 228 and 229 from Lonsdale Quay), or car (exit 19 off of Hwy 1), you will want to spend at least half a day here to hike through the 617 acres of trails, and visit the swimming pools and waterfalls.

For over 100 years, Vancouverites have been hiking the growing number of trails at Lynn Canyon Park, marveling at the huge 2nd growth trees, and the breathtaking twin falls and 30 foot pool.  For those brave enough to try it, cliff jumping is a popular activity at various locations in the park; however, Vancouver Scene will not recommend cliff jumping or waterfall-shooting, as emergency services are not nearby.  Better to stick to the hiking and swimming, and leave the danger to local daredevils who have extra insurance.  Just keep your camera handy!

The highlight to Lynn Canyon Park is the beautiful suspension bridge that hangs 50 meters above the creek below.  Grab a snack at the visitor center, cross the road, and enter an entirely different world!  If you want to learn about local flora and fauna, an Ecology Center is on-site with information and educational programs.
